Drink calculator - frontend

Our obective is to assess user needs, usability challenges, and design considerations for a drink calculator tool that helps event planners determine the quantities of wine, spirits, beer, and soft drinks required for their events.

User Needs:

  1. Customizability: Users want to input guest preferences, drink types, and event duration for tailored calculations.
  2. Clarity: Need clear explanations of how quantities are calculated (e.g., drinks-to-bottles conversion).
  3. Soft Drinks: Strong demand for including non-alcoholic options, especially for family-friendly or mixed-audience events.
  4. Efficiency: Users prioritize quick and straightforward inputs with real-time calculation results.

Pain Points:

  1. Overwhelming calculations: Many users struggle with manual estimations or interpreting complex outputs.
  2. Inflexibility in preferences: Some tools don’t allow adjustments for different drink types or consumption rates.
  3. Lack of guidance: Users often don’t know the standard drink size or how many drinks a bottle provides.

Usage Patterns:

  1. Casual hosts focus on simplicity and default values, while professional planners prioritize detailed customization.
  2. Most users rely on tools during the initial planning phase but revisit as guest lists or event details change.
